ABOUT THIS PEPTIDE

SNAP-8, also called acetyl octapeptide-3, is a synthetic cosmetic peptide modeled after part of the SNAP-25 protein. It is marketed for the appearance of expression lines, especially around the forehead and eyes.

SNAP-8 is often called a “Botox alternative,” but that description goes too far. Botox is an injected prescription drug that blocks nerve signaling in a controlled clinical setting. SNAP-8 is a topical cosmetic ingredient with much weaker and less certain skin penetration.

The main cosmetic evidence comes from manufacturer testing and multi-ingredient products. Independent studies of pure SNAP-8 are sparse. No published study has injected SNAP-8 into a person or animal.

SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED

• 200mL plain water-based serum or cosmetic base, fragrance-free and intended for leave-on use
• Clean mixing container with a lid
• Small cosmetic spatula or stirrer
• Alcohol swabs for cleaning the vial stopper and work surface

Do not use an oil-only carrier. SNAP-8 is supplied as a water-soluble cosmetic peptide.

TOPICAL MIXING

The manufacturer’s standard premixed ingredient contains 0.05% SNAP-8 peptide and is added at up to 10% of a finished cosmetic formula. That works out to 0.005% active peptide in the finished product.

To match that active level with this pure 10mg vial, mix the full vial into 200mL of a water-based cosmetic base.

1. Clean the work surface, mixing container, and your hands.
2. Add a small amount of the water-based carrier to the SNAP-8 vial.
3. Swirl gently until dissolved. Do not shake.
4. Transfer the dissolved peptide into the rest of the carrier.
5. Mix slowly and label the container with the name, concentration, and date.

Do not confuse “10% SNAP-8 Solution” with 10% pure peptide. The commercial solution is mostly water and contains only about 0.05% active SNAP-8.

Adding raw peptide to a finished serum can change its preservative balance. A cosmetic base intended for custom formulation is the better choice.

TOPICAL USE

Simple starting routine

• Patch test a small area for 24-48 hours.
• Apply a thin layer to clean, dry expression-line areas once daily for the first week.
• If tolerated, use twice daily.
• Give it 4-8 weeks before judging the appearance change.

Keep it out of the eyes and off eyelids, lips, broken skin, infected skin, and freshly treated cosmetic-procedure areas.

WHAT ABOUT INJECTION?

Injectable protocols appear on blogs and forums, but they conflict sharply. Some pages suggest 50-100mcg per facial site once or twice weekly. Others suggest 330-1,000mcg subQ every day. No published study supports either approach.

There is no human or animal injection study, no systemic safety testing, no pharmacokinetic data, and no established sterile facial-injection technique for SNAP-8. Facial microinjection adds risks of infection, scarring, nerve or blood-vessel injury, asymmetry, and eye damage.

Because of that gap, this guide does not provide injection reconstitution, facial injection points, or a starting injection dose. Topical use is the route supported by the product’s cosmetic history.

SIDE EFFECTS AND CAUTIONS

Topical use may cause redness, dryness, itching, burning, rash, eye irritation, or breakouts from the carrier. Stop and wash the area if irritation is strong or persistent.

Avoid use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical guidance. Use extra caution with neuromuscular disease, facial nerve problems, active skin infection, or a recent injectable cosmetic procedure.

Get medical help for eye injury, vision changes, facial weakness, trouble swallowing, trouble breathing, facial swelling, or a severe allergic reaction.

STORAGE

Keep the powder cold, dry, and dark. Store a mixed topical product according to the cosmetic base instructions, preferably refrigerated if the base allows it. Discard it if the smell, color, texture, or clarity changes or if contamination is possible.
